Welcome to

The Michael Yang

Foundation

The Michael Yang Foundation was organized in 2002 by Steve and Lori Yang in memory of their son, Michael Yang. Michael died at the age of 23 months on November 12, 2001. His death was sudden and unexpected with the cause being undetermined.

Steve and Lori wish to honor their little boy while somehow making a difference in the lives of others. The areas of support through the Foundation are a reflection of Michael and what would have brought him joy and been important to the quality of his life.

Young Life

The first area of support is Young Life. Young Life is a Christian organization for teens. Michael’s life would have been built on a Christian foundation. The Yang family wanted to continue that effort in the life of another child.  Each year, Young Life sends teenagers to summer camp, with a number of those wishing to go financially unable. The Foundation sponsors at least two teenagers each year to attend and prayerfully, improve the quality of their life and their relationship with God.

The second area is one in which Steve and Lori chose to support through their own struggles with grief. Through the support of a grief program in Charlotte, the Yang couple credit so much of their strength and courage to a support network. Along with another bereaved parent, Bill Smith, a support program was started in Rowan County for parents who have lost a child. The group is called Circle of Hope. Currently, there are 132 families on the mailing list. Circle of Hope provides a safe haven for those who have lost a child. Funding is provided solely from The Michael Yang Foundation.

Voices of Hope

Voices of Hope

An annual fundraiser is held for The Michael Yang Foundation. It is held the first Sunday of each November. It is called Voices of Hope. It is music in the park. The music is a mix of inspirational, praise, and songs of remembrance. Since Michael’s death, the Yang family has found music to be a comfort to them. And also knowing Michael’s love of music, they had the idea to share the power of music with others through an outdoor concert.
